On Sunday August 25th 2019, The Centereach Fire Department was activated for a Residential Structure Fire on Catalina Court in Centereach. Upon arrival Centereach F.D. Units were met with a 2 story Residence with heavy fire load to the front exposure of the home with all occupants evacuated. Engine 5-5-2 was first due and stretched hose-lines to attack the large fire, followed by Ladder 5-5-5, Engine’s 5-5-9, 5-5-12 & 5-5-6, Ambulances 5-5-15, 5-5-16 & 5-5-17 and Fire Police 5-5-11. Crews worked quickly to attack the fire and the main body of fire was knocked down just under 30 minutes into the alarm and the fire was deemed under control shortly after. One civilian and one firefighter were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Chief of Department: Max Mazyus was in command of the alarm and assisted by Assistant Chiefs: Ben Vecchio & Joseph Feola. Selden Fire Department sent one additional Engine & Ambulance to the scene, Stony Brook Fire Department sent on Rapid Intervention Team to the scene and Farmingville Fire Department sent one Engine to Centereach Fire Department Headquarters to cover the District.
