On Monday February 11th 2019 just before 5:30 PM the Centereach Fire Department was activated for a Structure Fire in the Vicinity of Minerva Lane and Park Street with multiple reports of flames visible the arriving Chiefs requested a reactivation for a 13/35 and requested Mutual Aid from neighboring Departments. Chief of Department: Max Mayzus established command with the assistance of Assistant Chiefs: Joe Feola & Gerald Sposato, Chief Mayzus gave the report of heavy fire coming from the attic on the exposure 4 side. First Due Engine 5-5-2 picked up a water supply and stretched a hoseline into the Structure, Second Due Engine 5-5-9 stretched a backup line to assist Engine 2. After a few minutes command ordered all units to back out and evacuate the structure with belief the roof and interior stairs may have been compromised due to the heavy fie load, and both hoselines began an exterior attack. An Engine from Selden FD, Ladder 5-5-5, Engine 5-5-12 & Ronkonkoma FD Rapid Intervention Team (R.I.T.) assisted units with the attack hoses and ventilation and protected the exposures of a nearby structure. Ambulance 5-5-18 served as rehab for all firefighters and Fire Police units closed off the roadway. After time the structure was declared safe and units resumed an Interior attack. The Fire was placed under control within 30 minutes and all operations ceased just after an hour. This was the 3rd working structure fire within 8 days for Centereach.
